1. Venus Probe
2. Cuba
We are still not certain
whether or not the Soviets suc-
ceeded in injecting the probe vehi-
cle they launched yesterday into a
trajectory toward Venus.
a. There has been no abate-
ment in the Soviet buildup. Our
tally of the number of voyages by
Russian dry cargo vessels to Cuba
since the end of July has reached
the 80 mark and is Ting steadily.
C, Spokesmen for the Alpha-
66 exile group in Miami and Puerto
Rico announced yesterday that plans
for more raids against Cuba are well
advanced. They have christened the
next one "Operation Miami," allegedly
in honor of local supporters.

East German
division ?is scheduled to receive
"Honest John"-type surface-to-surface
missiles before the end of 1962. We
are fairly certain that the other
satellites have not been equipped
with such missiles.
4. Macao - Hong a. Portuguese authorities in
Kong - Taipei Macao expect a formal Chinese Com-
munist protest to follow another
bomb explosion on the Chinese side
of the border on Tuesday.
b. In Taipei the same day,
Ambassador Kirk took up the bombing
matter with foreign minister Shen
for the second time in less than a
fortnight. Shen assured him he would
refer it to "appropriate authorities."

a. Vientiane on Tuesday
agreed to establish diplomatic re-
lations with Hungary and Outer Mon-
golia, raising to six the number of
Communist countries recognized in
a week's time.
b. Meanwhile, the South Viet-
namese ambassador has been recalled
to Saigon for "consultations" pend-
ing clarification of Laos' relations
with Hanoi.

A. Congo All we have so far about yesterday's skirmish
between UN troops and Katangan gendarmes outside Elisa-
bethville are the protests of each side-blaming the
other for the affair.
B. Communist China - Pakistan The Chinese Communists are
letting it be known in Karachi that they will be reason-
able in border negotiations only to the extent that the
Pakistanis see things their way on the issue of Chinese
representation ?at the UN.
