JORDAN
Fighting has continued into the third day in the north
where the army appears to be inflicting heavy casualties on
the fedayeen. Only sporadic shooting occurred in Amman, al-
though security force spokesmen claim they will soon clean up
trouble spots there. Fedayeen militiamen in refugee camps
nearby are preparing for such an attack.
Slowing the army's momentum could become more diffi-
cult with the return yesterday of Sharif Nasir, King Husayn's
cousin and a hard-line general. The few remaining cease-fire
observers announced .they. were suspending their efforts because
of government obstruction.

CAMBODIA
Prime Minister Lon Nol plans to leada delegation
to Saigon on 20 and. 21 January. Discussions will cover
both military and economic aspects of the South Vietnam-
ese involvement in ?Cambodia, including Saigon's request
that the Cambodians help pay the cost of South Vietnamese
participation.
Earlier lower level negotiations foundered on the pay-
ments issue, and there is no evidence that either Lon Nol
or Thieu is ready to compromise now. The two men met briefly
in Cambodia several months ago. If Lon Nol goes ahead with
the. trip, it will be the first time he has left Cambodia
-since Sihanouk's ouster last March
Communist military activity continues low keyed.
Light harassment- of government forces has been reported in
the east along Route 7 and in the southwest along Route 4
near Pich Nil pass'.
