We have identified a new, torpedo-attack, class of Soviet nuclear
submarines. At least three of this type are believed operational.
We had previously identified another nuclear class, probably
missile equipped, of which at least six are operational. 50X1

revolt against Nasir will break out in Egypt in the next few days.
We doubt these rumors, which are to be expected under present
circumstances, but we are not so confident of our assessment
of the Egyptian army's attitude in the aftermath of the Syrian
affair to say that such a move is out of the question.
D. De Gaulle now plans to go to Algeria--but not the city of
Algiers--at the end of this month. His visit will yet again
increase the danger of demonstrations or attempts at assassina-
tion.
E. Embassy Quito reports the situation in Ecuador "not now as
alarming as previously appeared".
F. Some Chinese Communist troops may be operating in Burma--with
Rangoon's permission--as they did last year against the
Nationalist irregulars.
British troop withdrawal from Kuwait has been completed.

It now appears that at least five, and perhaps several more, of
the 26 regional Chinese Communist party bosses have been replaced
over the past year. The purged leaders are apparently being 50X1
made scapegoats for failures in the commune and "leap forward"
programs, and for difficulties with ethnic minorities.

1. Turkish parliamentary elections will be held this Sunday. While
there is a good deal of popular sympathy for the Menderes regime,
the present military junta believes its party will win at least
a plurality.
