THE PRESS REPPORTS EXTENSIVELY ON CENTRAL GOVERNMENT PREPARATIONS TO ATTACK KATANGA, BUT WE HAVE NO CONFIRMATION FROM OFFICIAL SOURCES. SUCH A MOVE WOULD POSE MAJOR LOGISTICAL PROBLEMS AND TAKE SOME TIME TO DEVELOP. C. THERE ARE SIGNS OF INCREASING RHODESIAN AND SOUTH 50X1 AFRICAN SUPPORT FOR TSHOMBE. 2. EXPANSION OF COMMUNIST GUERILLA ACTIVITY IN SOUTH VIETNAM. 50X1 THE NUMBER OF STATIONS IN THEIR CLANDESTINE RADIO NET HAS RISEN FROM FIVE IN 1959 TO 29 THIS JANUARY AND 49 NOW. WE HAVE DETECTED THREE NEW ONES SINCE JULY IN THE CENTRAL HIGHLANDS, WHERE THEY HAVE STEPPED UP ATTACKS THIS MONTH. 50X1 3. BERLIN. A.
