Vietnamese nationalist with contacts in political circles of North
Vietnam.
(b)(3)
1. On 3 January 1954 a meeting of more than thirty members of the
Royal Family in North Vietnam was held at the Dong Loi Hotel
in Hanoi. The meeting was convened by Vinh Du, the Deputy
Royal Delegate to the Domains of the Crown in North Vietnam.
Other members present at this meeting were: Buu Dang, director
of a business school on Richaud St., Hanoi; Ung Thi, a businessman
and a member of the Hanoi Unity Group; Buu Cau, a merchant;
Buu Chuong, a Lt. Colonel and former Headquarters Chief of the
Bao Chinh Doan in North Vietnam, and also a former member of
the Dai Viet Party.
2. During the meeting Buu Loc asked those present their opinions of
such political personalities as Tran Trung Dun;, Hoang Co Binh
and Trinh Quoc Quang oka Truong Van Trinh. Vinh Du then brought
up the main subject, that is the formation of an "Association of
Members of the Royal Family" (Ai Huu Hoang Phai). Dugs proposal
was accepted and Du was elected chairman of the association.
.The following day, Du submitted a list of more than 500 members
of the Royal Family in Hanoi to Buu Loc.
3. The principal purpose of this association is to enable Buu Loc
to contact a fairly large group of persons who will provide him
with political support during his tenure as President.
We did not realize Bao Dai's relatives were as numerous as
this report appears to indicate.
It is not clear what source means when he refers to "members
of the Royal Family".
