Chronology of Terrorism-1994
The following incidents were considered by the Intelligence Community's Incident
Review Panel since publication of the previous issue of the Terrorism Review and
were determined by the Panel to constitute international terrorism. Such incidents
provide the basis for the State Department's Patterns of Global Terrorism, which is
published annually as the US Government's official record of international terror-
ism.

Asia
Spain: A small package bomb exploded at the Greek Consulate in Barcelona. No
one was injured, but the Consulate was lightly damaged. The Basque Fatherland
and Liberty (ETA) is probably responsible.
13 October
Africa

Vietnam: Twenty-one persons, among them seven Chinese businessmen and a
Taiwan tourist were injured when a man on a motorcycle lobbed a grenade into
a crow
Egypt: Three people were killed and two were wounded when an assailant fired
on a downtown tourist area in Hurghada. Two Egyptians and one German were
killed in the attack. The Islamic group al-Gamaat al-Islamiyya (IG) claimed
responsibility for the attack

Egypt: Assailants shot and killed a British tourist and wounded three other
an attack on a bus near Luxor. The IG is believed responsible for the attack
Iraq: A powerful vehicle bomb detonated; killing a five-year-old Egyptian boy
and wounding 13 other persons in Baghdad. A new group calling itself the Iraqi
Islamic Vanguards for National Salvation (IIVNS) claimed res nsibility for the
attack as part of a campaign to topple Saddam Husayn

West Bank: An Italian and a Spaniard were among four tourists injured in
Al `Ayzariyah when an assailant threw a grenade into the crowd
Israel: Two Arabs armed with assault rifles and grenades attacked pedestrians
on Yoel Salomon Street. The gunmen killed two people and injured 14 others.
Two US citizens were among the injured. The two militants were killed by police
fire, and a third accomplice, who was waiting in a get-away car, was arrested.
HAMAS has claimed responsibility for the inciden

Israel: A bomb exploded on a crowded commuter bus in Tel Aviv, killing 22peo-
ple and injuring at least 48 others. The attack was claimed by HAMAS
Latin America
19 July Panama: The extremist group, Ansar Allah (Followers of God) claimed respon-
sibility for a commuter plane that exploded in flight over the Santa Rita moun-
tains, killing three US citizens and 12 Jewish persons. Among the victims were
Israeli nationals and dual Israeli-Panamanian citizens. It is possible another group
may be responsible for the bombing

Colombia: Suspected members of the Simon Bolivar Guerrillas Coordinator
(SBGC) detonated a bomb outside two Mormon churches. The explosives caused
property damage, but no one was injured

accounting of all domestic terrorist incidents but rather to provide an over-
view of indigenous terrorism worldwid
On 7 December in Boufarik, gunmen fired on a secondary school, killing
one student and injuriininethers. The Armed Islamic Group (AIG) is
suspected in the attack
On 9 December, suspected Islamic militants shot and killed two policemen
at a train station in the town of Mallawi. Al-Gamaat al-Islamiyya or IG is
probably responsible
Sri Lanka Five police commandos were killed when members
of Tamil Elam ambushed their patrol on 9 Decembe

Philippines On 1 December a bomb detonated at a Manila theater, in wing three people.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack
On 15 December a member of the Philippine National Police was ambushed
and assassinated. Chief Inspector Jose Pring was shot in his vehicle while
en route to work in the vicinity of Santa Mesa Manila. The Alex Boncayo
Brigade claimed responsibility for the attacic
India On 10 December suspected Sikh militants detonated a bomb on a bus pear
Jammu. Three persons were killed, and at least 10 others were injured

Israel On 21 December an Arab resident of Samaria was shot and killed near t
village of Tulkram. Kakh activists claimed responsibility for the murder.
Iraq On 14 December a bomb exploded in the computer building of the p
security directorate in Baghdad. No group has claimed responsibility

On 21 November near Bastia, Corsica, suspected members of the National
Front for the Liberation of Corsica bombed five bungalows at a tourist
complex. No one was injured, but the bungalows were destroyed.

Colombia
On 13 December police defused a bomb at the Rontegui Bridge in Bar-
akaldo. The Basque Fatherland and Liberty is probably responsible.
On 11 December in Adana, a bomb detonated at the Hippodrome during a
horse race, wounding 16 persons. On 14 December a bomb detonated inside
an Istanbul department store, wounding one customer. No group has
claimed cre1itIorhe attacks, but the Kurdistan Workers' Party may be
responsible.
On 3 December, members of the Shining Path (SL) detonated a car bomb
near the Advanced School of the Peruvian Air Force (FAP) in the La
Molina District. No injuries were reported, but damages were sustained
On 13 December suspected guerrillas bombed a police station and city vehi-
cle in Bogota. The attacks caused minor damage, but no injuries. Police
found and deactivated a third bomb near a transportation union building. No
group has claimed responsibility, but these attacks occurred before a
rolannel transportation strike by bus owners who are in a contract dispute.
On 14 December approximately 100 armed members of the SL ambushed a
convoy, killing 14 soldiers and six civilians The convoy's destination was a
highway construction site in Tingo Maria
