We have used most ofA-Wtechniques UAW in Paragraph Bi(Research Plan)
in studies on the Pathogenesis of staphylococci. We have also -studied the
in vitro characteristicaof stafhylococci causing acute bovine mastitis and _
ZEionitAcyine mastitis, We started to isolate- staPkyloc000i from nasal
swabs of various animals. During the past year we have examined nasal swabs from
deer, foxes, ekurasuand-CupessuMs 83 well as from laboratory:animais has rabbits_
and mice. We are_ourrently doing-laberatory in vitro tests on the staPhylotoccal
cultures that have been isolated.

WESE-ARCHIPROPOSAL'
Thie Department has had under investigition studies
on virulent and non-virulent Staphylococci. It is expected
that by investigation of biochemical properties and ntabOliITi
functioning of the major genetic variar.ts, indicators would be identi-
fied to-mark the virulent Sta-phylococci,T The project, therefore,
hasgervetic, metabolic, and nutritional components. The varieties
of to'llasrdted-by the various Staphylococci a,s well as the _
intensity will be determined as sub -are.-Is in this study. It is
expected that the eventual ,goal of this investigation-will be
bioehernical_tosts which_will identify the organisms of interest.
