Dear Professor McKown:
This is a final response to your 11: July 2007 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
request, received 18 July 2007, for records on:
The Human Ecology Fund
The Human Ecology Society
The Society for the Investigation of Human Ecology
Harold Wolff and the study of Human Ecology
Human Ecology and Total Environment planning
Ionia State Hospital and The Human Ecology Society
John Gittinger and The Human Ecology Society.
We have assigned your request the reference number above.
We have had other requests for information on human ecology. A search of our
database of previously records netted 22 documents, totaling 505 pages. Because you
write that you want to be notified if there are any fees for copying records beyond 100
pages, we are sending you only the first 10 pages of MORI numbers 17446, 17460 and
17461. If you wish to order the entire document(s), please indicate your choice(s) on the
enclosed printout; you will be charged 10 cents a page. There is no charge for the enclosed
100 pages.
Please note that the items in your request fall under the rubric of MKULTRA. With
regard to MKULTRA, we already conducted exhaustive searches and reviews on the term
"human behavior," including LSD testing, and located and released over 20,000 pages of
documents on the general subject of human behavior studies. Much of the MKULTRA
material is very limited in scope and consists primarily of financial records. These records
concern funding approvals for research projects described in general terms.
(b)(3)
The MKULTRA collection is available as a three-CD set. Most of the documents
imaged in these discs were released to the public nearly 20 years ago. What is new about
the collection is its convenient and inexpensive format: the digitized version can be made
available for $30, compared with the nearly $2,000 we would charge to print the contents
on paper.
CIA requires that requesters pay for the CDROMs in advance of shipment. Please
send your check or money order for thirty dollars (US$30), payable to the Treasurer of the
United States, to this office. Please make reference to the identification number F-2007-
01699.
We hope you find the enclosed material useful.
