Weekly Surveyor Swedes Measure Larger Seismic Magnitude than USAEDS for Soviet Nuclear Ex losion: An underground explosion in . the emipa1atins region of Soviet Siberia on 16 May was recorded by the Uppsala observatory seismographs. The shock waves from the subterranean blast measured magni- tudes 5.6 on the Richter scale. Pakistan Thinks In Terms of Nuclear Weapons: Ahmad Khan, Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of Pakistan hinted that Pakistan might be compelled to follow India's example of exploding a nuclear device. He rejected an Indian promise to use nuclear power only for peaceful purposes, and warned that the Indian test had "opened the floodgate for nuclear weapons."
