Headquarters Building Booklet

In 1961, CIA began moving employees to its new headquarters location in Langley, Virginia. CIA was originally headquartered in the Foggy Bottom area of Washington, D.C. Then-Director of Central Intelligence Allen Dulles wanted a more secure, secluded environment with a college campus-like setting, as well as room for expansion. His efforts resulted in the building now known as the Original Headquarters Building.

In preparation for the move to the new building, CIA issued a booklet, “Your New Headquarters Building,” that described the building, its facilities, and services. The publication emphasized the up-to-date nature of the new campus. The booklet also provided information about the status of area roads needed for people commuting to CIA. Pictured here is a copy of the booklet.
