About the Job

As a Visual Media Designer for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), you will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and producing visual solutions for a wide variety of products. You will create and publish products for print, video, and interactive that will be disseminated across CIA, the Intelligence Community, and the federal government. You will work as a member of a team focusing on one or more specialties, such as graphic design, publication design, motion graphics, video, and user interface (UI) and user experience (UX).

Specific duties for this position include:

  • Designing corporate identity and collateral
  • Designing brochures, publications, and campaigns
  • Designing promotional material, exhibits and displays, and signage
  • Engaging in UI and UX explorations and development for web and interactive products
  • Engaging with developers and programmers to deliver and maintain websites on the internet or various intranets
  • Crafting storylines and storyboards for motion and video products
  • Conducting basic video production and post-production to tell a compelling story
  • Ensuring appropriate application of style, typography, hierarchy, and  pacing to products across multiple media
  • Analyzing and translating customer requirements into actionable project objectives
  • Managing time and deliverables within the scope of a production schedule

You will work with a team of visual media designers within a studio environment; however, there are occasional opportunities to deploy as a single dedicated support specialist serving the publishing needs of various CIA and Intelligence Community locations within the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields or related studies:
    • Graphic Design
    • Visual Communication
    • Multimedia Design and Production
    • Or, at least six (6) years of work experience in a professional publishing environment may be substituted for academics
  • Knowledge of the following:
    • Graphic design
    • UI and UX for interactive product development
    • Video production techniques and applications
    • Preparing files and documents for  output, including vendors, printing, and digital outputs
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills suitable to provide product demonstrations, document and explain project requirements, and create/develop/manage content for websites and publications
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management, and creative skills to work effectively within professional creative team environments
  • Ability to meet the minimum requirements for joining CIA, including U.S. citizenship and a background investigation

Desired Qualifications

  • Background in graphic design and/or user interface and user experience design
  • Strong business acumen
  • Experience in publishing business environment
