Undergraduate Internship Program – Security Protective Service – Police Officer Intern

As a Security Protective Service (SPS) Intern for CIA, you will work around federal police officers who protect CIA personnel, facilities and information through the enforcement of Federal laws.

  • U.S. citizens (dual U.S. citizens also eligible)
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Willing to move to the Washington, DC area
  • Able to complete security and medical evaluations
  • Registered for the Selective Service

About the Job

As a Security Protective Service (SPS) Intern for the CIA, you will work in a fast-paced environment around federal police officers who protect CIA personnel, facilities and information through the enforcement of Federal laws and Agency Regulations. As an Undergraduate Intern, you are expected to develop and display communication skills during your exposure in a federal police department.

You will have the opportunity to gain an overall view of the service by getting opportunities to work in various SPS offices, experience the cadet program and participate in training opportunities within the service.  SPS interns will also be assigned duties and tasks, which will be then brief by the intern to SPS front office and other SPS personnel.   

An SPS career can encompass a full range of high-quality security and police services through a variety of fixed posts, patrol operations, and specialty units. Specialty unit assignments are filled through competitive vacancy processes and include threat management, K-9, Bomb Squad, CERT, and court liaison.

Two 90-day tours are preferred; however, one 90-day tour is the minimum requirement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Full-time student pursuing an undergraduate degree in one of the following fields or related studies:
    • Criminal Justice
    • Police Studies
    • Homeland Security and Emergency Management
    • Criminology
    • Sociology
  • Two 90-day tours are preferred; however, one 90-day tour is the minimum requirement
  • At least a 3.0 GPA on a 4-point scale
  • Attending school on a full-time basis before/following this internship
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong commitment to continuous learning
  • High levels of trustworthiness, integrity, and loyalty to the U.S. Government
  • Ability to follow directions and work in a team environment
  • Ability to undergo successful occupational testing to include an aptitude test, personality inventory, and interview
  • Ability to meet the minimum requirements for joining CIA, including U.S. citizenship and a background investigation
